Gap Analysis

November 20, 2013  |   Posted by :   |     |   Comments Off on Gap Analysis»

Definition: A gap analysis describes what is missing between available data and the requirements being mapped.

What This Means: An education agency is required to submit multiple data files or reports to other agencies. A gap analysis will determine the authoritative data sources within the education agency for the required data elements for a specific mandated submission (e.g., EDFacts or a state report) and show where there are individual data elements missing or where definitions are misaligned. If no authoritative data source is available, that will be shown as well. As used in DataSpecs, a gap analysis is a report that shows what data are available for a specified use. An EDFacts Gap analysis shows what Table Fields are missing to complete an EDFacts submission.
